New Health regulations or proposals in the US

The New York City Department of Health passed a Health code requiring restaurants that post nutritional information online to also post the information on their menus in the restaurant.  Here’s a link to the regulation: http://www.nyc.gov/html/doh//downloads/pdf/public/notice-adoption-hc-art81-50.pdf.  The New York State Restaurant Association brought the New York City Board of Health to federal court saying the regulation was unconstitutional.  The court granted a motion to stay the regulation.  About a year later (Apr 08), the court removed the stay and ruled in favor of the Department of Health.  The appeals court has also ruled in favor of the Department of Health (end of Apr 08).  3 June 2008 is supposed to be the first date that restaurants will be fined if they are not compliant with the regulation.  Here’s the link for more details:http://www.usatoday.com/news/health/weightloss/2008-04-16-nyc-calories_N.htm.

California passed a law on 30 Sep 2008 requiring restaurant food chains with 20 or more stores to post calorie info on menus and indoor menu boards by 1 Jan 2011.  Here's a link to the article: http://www.cspinet.org/new/200809301.html

With the signing of the Health Care Reform Act of 2010, all restaurant chains with more than 20 locations are required to post food calorie counts on their menus.  It is expected to take 3 to 4 years to have FDA provisions defined and this regulation enforced.  See the following article for more info:  http://www.pbs.org/newshour/rundown/2010/03/with-menu-labeling-law-diners-will-soon-know-calorie-counts.html
